Presenting Companies: SoluBest Ltd.
Core Business / Technology
SoluBest is a nanotechnology company applying Solumer, its proprietary patented nanotechnology, for pharmaceutical and healthcare products. By enhancing drug solubility and stability in the amorphous state and achieving uniform particle size distribution, SoluBest is overcoming many noted hurdles of pharmaceutical drug discovery and development.
Main Markets / Applications
SoluBest SolumerTM Drug Transport nanotechnology is an innovative approach for designing therapeutic entities based on wrapping of regulatory approved polymers around the active drug molecule. This synthetic coiling can be likened to natural coiling observed in biosystems, i.e. DNA or proteins. As in DNA, the selective coiling allows these entities to be globulized into stable nanoparticle transport systems having significantly increased surface area and volume, which can be translated into significant pharmaceutical advantages. SoluBest is one of the few select companies in the world involved in nanotechnology drug delivery
Main Products Marketed or Under Development
The Pharmaceutical industry is searching for better anti-infectives, improving the compliancy, better efficacy and safety, while avoiding multiple drug interactions. SoluBest’s pipeline comprises therapeutics for the treatment of infectious diseases, classified as anti-bacterial, anti-viral, or anti-fungal.
SoluBest’s objective is to pioneer the development of first of its kind reformulated nanoparticle antibiotics that would require only one tablet for the entire treatment. For its flagship product –patent-pending SoluAzi, a reformulated Azithromycin antibiotic (sales over $1 billion), SoluBest is conducting a Phase 1 Clinical trial in the 2nd Q of 2005. This trial is based on promising results in in-vivo animal trials, in which SoluAzi exhibited a two-fold higher oral absorption than the commercial Pfizer antibiotic, Azenil.
Uniqueness / Advantage over Existing Products
SoluBest is also developing patent-pending SoluItra, a reformulated Itraconazole, an anti-fungal drug with severe solubility problems. Itraconazole (sales over $500M) indication is fungal infections in immunocompromised (example AIDS), non-immunocompromised patients and in patients who are intolerant of Amphotericin B therapy. SoluItra increases water solubility, increases loading relative to cyclodextrins, avoids use of cyclodextrins, increases stability and reduces variability. SoluItra also eliminates side-effects associated with cyclodextrins. Having developed in-vitro prototypes, SoluBest is planning Phase I clinical trials in the 1st Q 2006.
