Presenting Companies: Core Dynamics

Core Business / Technology

Core Dynamics Israel is a rapidly growing biotechnology company conducting research and development in areas of freezing and freeze-drying of cells, tissues and organs. The company’s mission is to enable long term banking of tissues and organs intended for transplantation, storage that may allow improved screening for contaminating factors, better tissue matching between donor and recipient, and increasing availability of tissues and organs. In the field of blood transfusion, Core Dynamics aims to improve storage and inventory management of blood and to increase safety of transfused blood, all through its freezing, freeze-drying and sterilization technologies.

Main Markets / Applications

Core Dynamics has developed innovative cryopreservation processes and technologies enabling freezing and freeze drying of blood cells, as well as freezing and long term storage of organs and tissues for transplantation.

Core Dynamics intends to become the leading provider of products and equipment for the processing of frozen and freeze-dried blood products, including red blood cells, stem cells and more. Long term storage of blood cells will eliminate seasonal supply shortages and improve safety by allowing the use of pathogen inactivation technologies. Core Dynamics's mission in the tissue and organ transplantation market is to enable long term banking of such tissues and organs allowing improved screening for contaminants, better tissue matching between donor and recipient, and increased availability of tissue and organs for transplantation.

Main Products Marketed or Under Development

Core Dynamics's products are all at various stages of development, with expected market entries beginning in July 2005, followed by additional product entries throughout 2005 and 2006. The first entry will be in the area of cryopreserved osteochondral grafts for the repair of knee cartilage injuries.

Core Dynamics is developing two products in the field of blood cryopreservation. The first is a frozen blood unit that contains no toxic cryoprotective agents (CPAs) that need to be washed out prior to use. The second product in this field under development is a freeze-dried blood unit that can be stored at room temperature and is ready for transfusion upon addition of distilled water. The list of related products under development and nearing commercialization include processing equipment and accessories, including freezing and thawing systems, drying systems, collection and freezing bags, etc.

Uniqueness / Advantage over Existing Products

All of Core Dynamics's cryopreservation applications are based on the sue of the company's proprietary Multi Thermal Gradient TM (MTG) technology which is unique in that it allows precise control over ice crystal propagation during the freezing process, thus substantially reducing the damage caused to cells during freezing with conventional methods. The company has also developed additive solutions for use with various freezing and thawing conditions, using the MTG freezing technology, that make it possible to freeze human RBCs without the use of conventional cryoprotective agents.
