Presenting Companies: CardioInspect
Core Business / Technology
CaridoInspect develops technology and products based on advanced Electrical Impedance Tomorgraphy algorithms, to enable the diagnosis and monitoring of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), induced lung edema and Cardiac Output parameters. The underlying technology was developed over several years at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tel Aviv University and is currently a portfolio investment of the Tel Aviv University Future Technology Development LP.
Main Markets / Applications
The CardioInspect technology enables monitoring of CHF patients in hospitals and outpatient clinics with greater accuracy and more reliable results than the current available technologies.
CardioInspect intends to position its technology as a key diagnostic and monitoring tool in assessing and treating congestive heart failure.
The "Hospital system” is the most attractive in terms of time-to-market and market readiness, will be first to deploy into the market. The system will provide the patient and the hospital with an easy non-invasive procedure for accurate determination of CHF status, and early detection of lung edema. The medical insurance company will benefit through reduced treatment costs and hospitalization. Following acceptance in hospitals, CardioInspect will expand to the out-patient and private clinic market, using systems based on the same technology. Following acceptance in hospitals and outpatient clinics, the technology will be adopted by the home healthcare market. This will allow CHF patients to simply and inexpensively monitor their hemodynamic status and transmit this information, via telephone or Internet, on a regular basis to their physician.
Main Products Marketed or Under Development
The CardioInspect innovative technology is based on Electric Impedance Tomography measurements using 8 or 4 chest electrodes evenly positioned around the patient's thorax.
The CardioInspect technology is portable, user-friendly and clinically oriented system, specifically designed for the application of lung edema and cardiac monitoring . The system enables an apparent separation between CHF patients and healthy subjects, where the lower lung resistivity values belong to the CHF patients, indicating larger fluid volumes in their lungs.
The CardioInspect project is in advanced development stages and is now using a second generation prototype developed at year 2004. A preliminary clinical trial, using the CardioInspect prototype was completed at the Rabin Medical Center and a larger scale trial is in the process at the Tel-Hashomer Medical Center with promising preliminary results.
A significant difference in the lung edema diagnosis between CHF patients and healthy subjects was established.
Uniqueness / Advantage over Existing Products
The competitors measure the hemodynamic and lungs parameters such as cardiac output, stroke volume and thorax fluid status using the Impedance Cardiography technique, which incorporates a whole-thoracic impedance measurement.
Whereas the competitor's technologies are based on empiric estimation, the CardioInspect's technology is based on proprietary numerical solution of the EIT inverse problem. Thus, the CardioInspect's algorithms achieve significant competitive advantage in accurate assessing of the thoracic fluid content and cardiac parameters.
