Presenting Companies: B.S.P. Biological Signal Processing Ltd.
Core Business / Technology
BSP is a medical device company that has developed and patented breakthrough technology for the cardiology market based on sophisticated, proprietary signal acquisition and processing algorithms. BSP’s HyperQTM systems offer revolutionary diagnostic and monitoring capabilities for ischemic heart disease
Main Markets / Applications
BSP’s first product, HyperQTM stress system, is a highly sensitive stress ECG system that uses the same clinical setting used in standard stress tests. The HyperQTM stress system received FDA approval and CE mark early in 2005. The system yields superior diagnostic results for ischemic heart diseases, significantly reducing unnecessary further procedures such as nuclear mapping (SPECT), and saving millions of dollars annually for health services providers and health insurers. BSP’s next products, currently in development are the HyperQTM rest monitor, a patient-monitoring product for bed-side and peri-operative implementation, and the HyperQTM checkup system, to be used as a periodic rest ECG checkup device. Another implementation is the integration of BSP’s technology within implantable cardiac devices, enabling monitoring of evolving ischemia.
Main Products Marketed or Under Development
BSP targets the $5bn spent annually on non-invasive cardiac monitoring and the $7bn implantable device market. Product implementations include: integration of BSP’s technology within stress systems; implantable cardiac devices; patient-monitoring products; and homecare telemedicine systems. Consequently, the company will seek strategic collaboration with leading manufacturers in the fields of cardiac monitoring, cardiac diagnostics and implantable devices. The HyperQTM technology can be integrated into these companies’ systems on a licensing-based model, generating a significant competitive advantage.
Uniqueness / Advantage over Existing Products
Currently, the most commonly used non-invasive means for the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease is stress ECG test. While this low-cost method (~ $100 per test) is simple to implement, it yields poor diagnostic results, with low sensitivity and specificity in wide populations. More accurate methods such as radioactive mapping are much more expensive (~ $1000 per test) and semi-invasive. BSP’s HyperQTM system achieved revolutionary diagnostic results in clinical tests: 80%-90% sensitivity, compared with less than 40% sensitivity of the standard stress ECG, and can be offered at a price per test of less than $200. Other implementations of the HyperQTM technology offer monitoring of evolving ischemia and ischemic states, not offered by any of today’s non-invasive systems.
