Presenting Companies: BioMas Ltd.

Core Business / Technology

Biomas is an emerging biotechnology company focused on the development of innovative Immuno-Modulating Compounds. Biomas' leading compound is the immunomodulator AS101. AS101 is a non-toxic, tellurium compound which has demonstrated multiple pharmacological activities.

Main Markets / Applications

Main Markets – AS101 - Ammonium-trichloro (dioxyethylene-0,0’) tellurate - is a member of the class of drugs known as Immune Response Modifiers. AS101 stimulates both the innate and acquired arms of the immune response. It is also a potent inducer of interferon (IFN) in mice and humans. AS101 has also been shown to induce the secretion of a spectrum of cytokines, such as IL-1, IL-6 and TNF_.

Main Products Marketed or Under Development

Biomas is currently focusing on the development of therapies for the following dermatological indications:

  • Topical treatment for preventing hair loss (Andro-Genetic Alopecia) Following clinical trials conducted in the past in which the AS101 was administrated I.V. concurrently with a chemotherapy treatment; a "side-effect" was noticed: hair loss was prevented or significantly reduced for many of the patients treated.
Based on this observation, various human clinical trials are being conducted. The initial findings of these trials clearly evidenced the therapeutic potential of AS101 in preventing AGA. The promising successful results of a previous study were already published in the front page of Feb 2004 issue of the FASEB Journal.
  • Topical treatment for HPV anal and genital warts (Condyloma Acuminata) Various human clinical trials are presently being conducted. In an interim summary of the patients already completed treatment, the AS101 has proven superiority over existing therapies. For example:
  • Vulvar warts- complete cure rate – 81% of the patients
  • Perianal warts- complete cure rate – 59% of the patients
  • Topical treatment for HPV palmar warts (Verruca Vulgaris)
In a human clinical trial conducted the following results were achieved:
Complete cure- 44% of the patients
Major response (reduction of more than 80% in the size of the warts) - 44% of the patients.
  • Uniqueness / Advantage over Existing Products

HPV anal and genital warts; higher cure rate and lower recurrence rate than existing treatments; minimal side effects; a non-surgical treatment; lesion area is cured without leaving scars; complete cure within few weeks; cream/ointment is applied at home by the patient; the cream/ointment is inexpensive to manufacture
